I have a copy of an Alamo catalog showing this style engine.The testimonials are dated as far back as 1900.I can just barely make out the serial # as 8 56.Before the 8 in my # there is a 0 which dosn't make any sense unless the "08" is the horsepower or there is an "n" before the 0 that I can't see, making it no8 56.There is a definite gap between the 8 and the 5. My 8hp is very early.When I aquired it,it was missing the tag, so I copied one from another early engine.
